WordPress plugin · images and WebP
Smaller images, faster pages — without credits or a cloud
Most image optimizers send your photos to their servers and sell you credits. This one does the work in your own browser: the image is compressed on your computer and saved back to your site, with a backup of the original.
- Free plugin
- WebP with <picture> fallback
- Originals backed up
- 10 languages
- Pro: pay once
WordPress 6.3+ · current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Opera for optimizing (visitors can use any browser)
Try it — compress a photo right here
This is the same browser encoding the plugin uses. Choose the format and quality, then drag the slider over the photo to compare. The photo never leaves this page.
Demo — the photo is compressed in your browser; nothing is uploaded

What it does
Optimize from the Media Library
An “Optimize” button next to every JPEG, PNG and WebP image (list view and image details) and the page Media → Optimize images.
WebP copies
WebP copies of the image and of every size WordPress made from it — typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG at the same look.
Two safe ways to deliver WebP
WebP next to the originals with the <picture> tag (browsers without WebP get the original), or replace the files with WebP and update the image links in your posts.
Quality and size you choose
Quality 82 by default; photos wider than 2560 px (or your limit) are made smaller. JPEG and WebP are re-compressed only when really smaller.
Backup and restore
Every original is copied to uploads/uzytak-io-backup first; “Restore original” puts it back with one click.
See what you saved
Before → after for every image and the total in the Media Library.
How it works
1. Your browser loads the image
From your own site, when you press “Optimize”.
2. It makes every size
Each size WordPress uses, with the same centred crop, encoded as WebP or JPEG at your quality.
3. Your site checks and saves
Every file is checked (real image, expected type and size), the original is backed up, the new files are saved.

Good to know
- The work is done by the browser of the person who presses “Optimize”. Safari cannot save WebP from a web page at the time of writing; use Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Opera for optimizing.
- AVIF (Pro) is made only where the browser can really encode AVIF; many browsers cannot yet, and then only WebP copies are made.
- “Replace the files” updates image links inside post content only. Page builders or themes that keep image addresses elsewhere may still point to the old file — use the <picture> option for them.
- Images must be loadable from your own site; images on a CDN or another server cannot be optimized.
- PNG images get WebP copies (with transparency); the PNG itself is not re-compressed.
- If you regenerate thumbnails with another plugin, restore and optimize the image again.

Questions
Are my images sent anywhere?
No. Your browser compresses them and saves them back to your own site. The plugin sends nothing to UZYTAK or anyone else and sets no cookies.
What happens to my original images?
They are copied to wp-content/uploads/uzytak-io-backup before anything changes. “Restore original” puts them back. Deleting the plugin does not delete the backups.
What is the difference between the two WebP options?
<picture> keeps the original and adds WebP copies, so every browser gets an image it can show. “Replace the files” turns the image into WebP and updates the addresses in post content; it saves the most disk space.
Why is an image “already well compressed”?
The new files would not be smaller than the existing ones, so nothing is changed.
Do I pay per image?
No. There are no credits and no limits. Pro is one payment.
How do I pay for Pro?
One payment through Lemon Squeezy, for one site or for up to 10 sites. After payment you get the Pro add-on; install it next to the free plugin.
